Charity Drive Death Match

Since we seem to be pro-animal this year, I’ve split the votes for either fundforanimals.org or animalacres.org (who had an astounding 50+ email votes! Yipes!). Winner takes all. Voting closes on the 30th of April, but donations will be open until July 1st, 2008.

Donations are now open!

Sadly due to US tax laws, I need everyone to use paypal this year. I know that crimps the students, and I do apologize, but my taxes were a mess this year and this is the simplest way for me to sort it out and avoid another audit. On the plus side, I have a merchant account with Paypal, which means a lot more security. I know a lot of people complain about Paypal, but I’ve been a member for 7 years and never had a problem.

  1. “Winner taxes all”? :)

I’ve never used PayPal before… I guess it’s time to start (I’m paranoid about credit cards and the internet)

Fixed. Heh. Really, using a credit card online is safer than handing it off to a waitress, or reading it off on the phone. As long as you always monitor your charges at the end of the month, you’re just as secure as you might have been.

  3. There is no rational explanation for paranoia. :)

Okay, no prob - I’ll have to wait until next month just to keep credit charges to a minimum.

I’m paranoid about PayPal now, having just read their fee schedule. It might as well be in Greek. :???: Hmmmmm. I suppose it COULDN’T hurt if I have an account. Hafta do some more research to be sure.

Basically you send them money, they take a percentage, and … that’s it. Yeah, the percentage sucks, but that’s what you get with intermediaries. And if it makes my taxman not pull his hair out next year… You can ‘attach’ your checking account and a credit card, so if you want to send money, they auto-draw from them, but I don’t think you have to unless you’re a ‘merchant’, which JFO/I am so … I haz to.

Honestly, my bank account has been ‘attached’ for 5 years with nary a problem. They don’t sell your information to anyone, and they called me the time someone tried to hack into my account. So as far as they go, I’m pleased enough to keep using them.
