Support

Keeping JFO running is a full time job, and sadly, it’s not actually the one that pays my bills.  The ads on JFO bring in around $4 to $10 a month, on a good month.  The site costs ten times that, on a cheap month.  The rest I pay out of pocket, and we’ve not even gotten to software costs, magazines, etc etc. But you can help!

Sponsorship

Sponsorship is handled via WePay though PayPal donations are welcome. Why WePay? They’re more flexible, and they do accept credit cards from out of the US. If you can’t WePay, or just don’t want to, there’s a PayPal ‘Purchase’ where you can buy a gift of $10. This is a work-around for PayPal’s donation restrictions (basically since I’m not an NPO…).

Quick FAQ:

What is sponsorship?

Basically you pay money to keep JFO going.  It’s as much or as little as you want to pay at any point in time.

Do I get cool things for being a sponsor?

Right now, no.  My goal is to make enough that I can send you stickers and stuff (lord knows of what…).  For now, you’ll have to accept being thanked as a sponsor. In the rare events I get my mitts on specialty items like DVDs and such, sponsors would get first grab at them. The catch is, of course, it costs money to make and send that sort of thing out, and it’ll be a while before all that can happen. Maybe I’ll video myself doing the hammer dance.

Will being a sponsor get rid of ads?

Not right now.  I know.  I want to say yes.  I really want to say it.  But since it’s going to take a while to build up to the point where I can do that and not go broke.  So for now, it’s a shared situation.  Ads simply aren’t paying for the site anymore.

How much, exactly, does JFO cost?

The server it runs on costs $103 and change a month. While the server is shared with multiple sites (including YTDaW), and the cost is defrayed somewhat, the whole reason I moved to the larger server in the first place was because of JFO. At best reckoning, 2/3rds of the cost of the server is due to JFO, so $66 or so a month is about a fair call to start with. Add in the software costs, magazines (which honestly I wouldn’t buy without the site), videos (which I would buy anyway), and domain name registration, it’s about $1100 a year, easily. And really that isn’t all that much when you look at it.
