Gil Grissom is a fictional character featured in the television series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, married to Sara Sidle. He is depicted by William Peterson.
Grissom brought Sara to the lab to help investigate the death of Holly Gribbs. [1] Over the next seven years, they danced around the idea of a relationship. After both Grissom and Sara left Las Vegas, they married. [2]

History
Sara and Grissom have a prior history and a friendship that seems a bit more than the normal mentor/student type. Sara has admitted to having feelings for Grissom, and he seems to care for her as well, though he rarely opens up about his feelings, and is not a physical person. Grissom often has trouble talking to Sara about their relationship - there are times when she will mention something about it, and Grissom is unable to come up with anything to say[3], while there are other times when he will mumble something about the case at hand and walk away [4] rather than respond. There have also been times when Grissom has failed to notice Sara entirely, even when she is right under his nose.[5]
At the end of the pilot episode of CSI, Grissom made the decision to call in Sara to help investigate Holly Gribbs' death. Sara often teases Grissom for his low-tech ways in the early seasons. Grissom has called Sara on her obsessive nature a few times, though this seemed to have little effect. In the first season of CSI, Sara spent a lot of time trying to show off to Grissom. While this has faded away, Sara is more likely to pretend she knows something in front of Grissom (ie murder central])[6]; Sara can also quote Grissom verbatim.
In one case, Sara brushed some dirt off Grissom's face[7], which was noticed and later came to play in a court case [3] with which Grissom was involved. At one point, Grissom sent Sara a plant [8] by way of appreciation (or apology) when she almost quit because he was failing to notice her. Another time, Grissom said he appreciated beauty since he met Sara.[9]
For a while Sara was dating Hank, to which Grissom possibly reacted by calling her in on her day off for a nasty case of cheerleader cannibalism.[10] After the lab blew up [11], feeling her own mortality and deciding that she couldn't waste this apparent 'second chance' at life, Sara asked Grissom out to dinner, finally acting on her long standing attraction to him; however Grissom claimed not to know what to do about them.
When a victim was rather similar in appearance to Sara,[12] Grissom's interrogation of the killer grew personal, as Grissom used his own feelings for Sara to try and explain why the killer (an older man who had an affair with the younger victim) acted as he did. Grissom explained that he had chosen his career over her (Sara), unaware that Sara and Brass watched the entire interview. After Sara was arrested for drunk driving[13], Grissom picked her up with little fanfare. In the following episode (after seeing a PEAP counselor[14]), Sara talks to a mirror to work up the courage to talk to Grissom. They really never talk about the matter as required, though Sara lies to Ecklie that they have [15]. It's to Grissom that Sara finally talks about her family history.[15] Later on, she tells him a little more, before the two begin dating. [16]
After Sara is kidnapped [17] Grissom 'outs' their relationship and, when Sara is rescued[18], flies with her to the hospital. When asked when she became intimate with Grissom, Sara replies "Two years ago," while Grissom claims nine.[19] He considers the first time they met, at a Forensics Academy Conference, to be when their relationship began, and Sara admits she'd wanted to ask him out back then. In order to keep their jobs and not violate policy, Sara moves to the swing shift.
Grissom proposes to Sara and while she does accept,[20] shortly there after she leaves Las Vegas, her job and Grissom, having burnt out as a CSI [21]. While Sara does return for Warrick's funeral [22], she leaves again shortly there-after, still unable to live with death in Las Vegas. [23].
When Grissom finally leaves Las Vegas, he meets Sara in Costa Rica. [24] They eventually marry [2] and while Sara returns to Las Vegas to work, Grissom remains in Paris, where she visits him frequently. [25]
Romantic Relationship
One of the more popular fan pairings, sometimes called the 'SS Geeklove', 'GSR' or 'Butterflies', the two begin a romantic relationship two years prior to when Sara moves to the swing shift.[19] Their relationship was revealed to the fans when Jim Brass is shot,[26] and they are seen together in a bedroom. They continue a clandestine relationship, hiding it from their coworkers, even when Grissom leaves for his sabbatical.[27] While their relationship appears strained at that point, they continue seeing each other. When Sara is kidnapped [17], Grissom outs their relationship to the rest of the CSIs. Sara later accepts Grissom's proposal. [20]
Their relationship status is unknown after Sara leaves Las Vegas, however Sara returns when Warrick is shot. She stays for a short while, but after the Adlers [28] return, and Tom kills Pamela, she leaves again, their relationship a question.[29] While gone, Sara sends Grissom a video message, assuring him of her well being, but Grissom seeks counsel with his old friend, Lady Heather. [30]
In the end, the two reunite in Costa Rica after Grissom too leaves Las Vegas [31] and they eventually marry. [2] While Sara is working back in Las Vegas, she explains that Grissom is guest lecturing at the Sorbonne in Paris, and visits him. [25]
