In case the world doesn’t end today, did you ever wonder how Jorja got involved in Forever Dusty?
How long have you been working on this show
About 7 years ago, I started to listen heavily to her music, watching videos and reading anything I could get my hands on. I wrote monologues in her voice and sang her songs at an open mic night at The Gardenia Club in West Hollywood. I won a screenwriting grant at University of Southern California and used that to get some musical charts in order and prototype a show. We performed the show once at USC and Jorja Fox from CSI was there and decided she wanted to be involved. She helped bring the idea to The Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center, part of the Gay and Lesbian Center in LA. We had a small successful run there but I knew the final frontier was New York. We’ve overcome some incredible obstacles; it is a dream come true to be running FOREVER DUSTY at New World Stages.

No one sings “Windmills of Your Mind” like Dusty Springfield did. I’m sorry she didn’t live to attend the ceremony inducting her into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I learned that song from the original Thomas Crowne Affair album. I think I learned most of her music from movies.
The original was and still is a classic in movie making. It was one of the first times multiple frames on the screen were used to help us follow the action. And it didn’t need nudity, as was found in the sequel, to make it sexy. That kiss between Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway was dizzying, probably because the camera circled them as they kissed. And, of course, Dusty’s amazing rendition of the title song added to the enjoyment of the movie. Like Karen Carpenter, Dusty left us way too soon.
OOPS! I said “sequel” when I meant “remake”. Soy sorry.
