Reminder About Twitter Impersonators

First of all, that you everyone for being so nice to Jorja on Twitter! I’m sure she appreciates your kind words.

This is not about that, however, but about the fake twitter accounts that have cropped up again. Please do not engage with them. It just encourages them to play pretend, and makes things harder for everyone.

The following accounts are fake: Ted Danson (@Danson_Ted), George Eads (@GeorgeEadsTV_), Robert David Hall (@RobertDavidHal), Laurence Fishburne (@Laurence_Fishbu), Marc Vann (@Marc_Vann – who has recently copped to being a fan account), Louis Vartann (@LouisVartann and FFS, that’s a character!), “@CSI_Television”, @CBS_Show, @CsiSeason.

They are all, fakes, guys, don’t get sucked in. There are many giveaways, but here are some clues: these accountsย all talk to each other right away; they are always ‘confirmed’ by each other; their grammar and spelling is not native to English speakers. Sometimes they fake pictures:

I mean, really, who couldn’t tell that was Photoshopped? The real Gary is @GaryDourdan and yes, that’s him.

[Edited: The account was deleted after I posted this!]

I don’t pretend to understand why people do this, but they do. So please, block them and ignore them. Whatever you do, don’t reply to them, bully them, or harass them. It just seems to encourage them, so clearly the only answer is to make this sick game not fun at all to them, by not playing along.

If you’re someone who makes those accounts and you’re reading this, please stop. Change your profile to say you’re aย fan account and not ‘official.’ The word ‘official’ means that you are the person or company, and you clearly are not. We can tell. All you’re doing is making the world a less pleasant place.

[Edited: Someone asked if I keep track of all this, and I do:ย]

  1. I had known few fakes on twitter, but thank god I didn’t follow them first place, unless I see who really person itself. Thanks for head ups on those fakes, but I’m glad that jorja is on twitter, she sound like very down to earth kind gal:) I went back on my twitter and checked if I did happen follow the fakes and ended up I found 2 of them to unfollow and block them.

    Take care ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Thanks for the heads up on the fakes. I also went back through to make sure I wasn’t following any of them and caught a couple. I tend to wait until someone I trust follows them, but that’s not always a fool proof way of doing it. As evidenced. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Thanks Mika, being a newbie on Twitter this is all good info for me! I’m having fun following Jorja Fox Online : )

  4. Why do you not include @guilfoyle_paul in the list of fake twitter accounts? Despite the blue checkmark, it’s obviously fake as well. All of the pics posted were lifted from various Facebook accounts and several tweets had a Brazil location.

  5. Thank you for the info about Gary Dourdan, I wasn’t sure that it was really him. I’m very glad to finally follow Jorja on Twitter and it doesn’t need to be verified, as you said that you knew about it but that you couldn’t tell it before it was made public (and I guess that she told you about it when you’ve seen her recently). I love your site, it is very complete… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Mika! I just read the link to the haters and it was verrry interesting and even funny at times, I know it shouldn’t be. I recently signed up for twitter to follow JorjaFoxOfficia and your site, and I sincerely hope I don’t get sucked into any of these situations. Your documentation is impeccable though.

      1. @Mika E. (Ipstenu): I don’t think you engaged as much as remained pretty sensible really, but I also think you were right to walk away, and in a way it’s a good lesson from the early days of Twitter. And also a scary reminder of how things can escalate… I’m glad JF reaches out to you and I smile to think you’re looking out for our girl on the Twitterverse! (And she might need it being new and all. I know I was def overwhelmed by what’s out there. I felt like I had caffeine overload.)

Btw, what happened to Jorja All Around? I’ve been following JF for years on the internet, but over the years of course the other sites have gone offline. I’m too old to fan someone else at this point, so I hope you know I expect you to be in for the long run. How’s that for responsibility? ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks in advance.

      2. @turningleaf: I re-read that and wanted to add, I didn’t mean to sound like I was undermining all the work you’ve already done so far, which is actually pretty amazing. And I do know you have been here since the beginning. I just meant that if you stayed around it would mean so much to me. Grateful.

      3. @turningleaf: I cannot imagine the Internet WITHOUT JFO ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s the best place regarding Jorja and her causes ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Hope Mika will have enough will and strengh to continue with this project as it’s the most reliable, accurate and up-to-date page ever ๐Ÿ™‚

btw Mika, do you have any knowledge of the fate of JAA?

      4. @turningleaf: No worries ๐Ÿ™‚ I got what you meant!

I hold myself to a high standard, I admit. I should be better than that, and I try to be better and not pick fights online. Sometimes you’ll see me remark “I will not be this guy.”

JAA. The woman who runs that went to grad school and got super busy. She’s still around (say hi!) and comments here from time to time ๐Ÿ™‚

      5. @Mika E. (Ipstenu): Thank you! The thing about message boards, Facebook and Twitter – all these channels and I still can’t find the right words sometimes…

Gah that’s funny! I’ll be on the lookout for those moments. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Sigh. Why do folks want to pretend to be someone else? They’re in the same basket with the malware writers in my book. Sometimes I’d like to crawl thru the interwebs and smack those folks. They make my life more difficult.
